On the formerly reviewed DVD Iron Maiden - Visions of the Beast there was a clip of Hallowed Be Thy Name from this show. The tempo is pretty high on the song and Bruce sounded a little strained, so my first impression was that this might not be the band's or his best show. Fast forward a couple of years and this finally made it to the top of might Netflix queue. After watching Wicker Man (the show opener) I could not have been more wrong. The band is almost as good as they were on Live After Death (can't wait until they finally release that DVD), and the quality level lasts throughout the show.

This show was filmed at the end of their Brave New World, so there are quite a few songs from that album. (BNW is a great CD and much better than both Dance of Death and A Matter of Life and Death taht have come since then, so this is not a negative at all) There are standout performances throughout including Brave New World, Wrathchild, and The Evil That Men Do, but the highlight of the evening in my opinion is Fear of the Dark. The band and especially the crowd bring this song to new heights of greatness.

In my review for Dark Tranquillity's Live Damage DVD I mentioned that the crowd in the main show was so lackluster that they brought the whole thing down. The Rock In Rio crowd (all 250,000 of them) is the complete opposite and deserves a special mention. Iron Maiden has always had a great relationship with the Brazilian fans and this DVD shows just how much the are still into Maiden after all these years. The constant jumping up and down and the singing along to every song shows their dedication and makes this DVD that much more enjoyable.

The only reason this is not a 4 star rating is that it is not Live After Death.
