Black Stone Cherry - Black Stone Cherry

I first saw these guys on Headbangers Ball and was not sure what to think. The seemed like a retro style band playing Led Zeppelin inspired music, but with a little more metallic edge. On the positive side there seemed to be a little more there than just another Zeppelin rip off. Their singer had a nice southern style voice and they gave a good performance in the video, so I decided to check them out. I downloaded their album from Urge, the MTV version of iTunes to which I have monthly subscription (A review of that will be on the jakegittes.com site soon) and after a couple of listens this Kentucky based band had me hooked. There is a little bit of something for everyone as the whole album is catchy as hell. Some of the stand out tracks are Rain Wizard, Hell and High Water, Lonely Train and Rollin' On, but honestly there really isn't a dull moment on the CD. What is really surprising is that Roadrunners records of all places picked them up. Opeth and Black Stone Cherry are two of the better decisions they have made in a long time.

(February 2007)

Eventually I picked this up on CD at Best Buy for $8.99
