Commentary by Film Historian Peter Cowie    Ingmar Bergman on Life and Work Documentary    Behind the Scenes Stills and Photographs

I have seen at least 10 other Ingmar Bergman films, but for some reason I had never been able to get around to seeing this film. I can see now why this is one of Woody Allen's favorite films. Wild Strawberries is about an older man who is about to receive an honorary degree. On his drive up to the town where the presentation is to take place he starts to relive some of the events of his life and what has got him to the point where he is at. Ingmar Bergman is one of the true auters of filmmaking and Wild Strawberries is full of the details and observations that he is so well known for.

A special note must be given to the film transfer for this DVD. I honestly do not think I have ever seen a film from the 50's that looked so perfect on DVD. I do not think it is possible for a black and white film to look any better than this.
