Roman Holiday, for all its typical Hollywood schmaltz, is one hell of an effective movie. My guess is that if this story was not being told by director William Wyler, it would have been a bunch of sentimental crap, but he hits all the right notes without making you feel queasy. Audrey Hepburn is absolutely stunning and Gregory Peck pulls off the "Cary Grant" roll with finesse.
