For some reason Ripley's Game was never released theatrically in the United States. Instead it went straight to DVD. This time around John Malkovich is playing the Tom Ripley character. (the same Tom Ripley that Matt Damon played in The Talented Mr. Ripley) Obviously this is supposed to be Ripley many years later. He may be older but his ability to improvise and kill are on full display in the opening scene. The next scene is set three years later in the Italian country where Ripley seems to have settled down with a woman and is living in full domestic bliss. An old acquaintance soon shows up and Ripley is forced to become involved in a murder for hire plot in which he gets his neighbor involved. Plot wise I do not want to give away any more than the setup. I didn't enjoy this film as much as The Talented Mr. Ripley, but Malkovich is outstanding and the film adds some great character details to the character of Ripley.
