The
Producers has the reputation of being one of the funniest movies
of all time and I will admit the first time I saw it I was a
little disappointed. I recently picked up the DVD at a deep
discount and decided to give it another shot. This time around,
as with Dr. Strangelove the second time around, I noticed a
lot more of the subtleties (if that is the right word in a Mel
Brooks comedy) in the story and the actor's performances. Gene
Wilder's performance at the beginning of the movie is still
is not my favorite, but once everything gets rolling The Producers
is one funny flick. Dick Shawn who's character's name is Lorenzo
St. DuBois (L.S.D.) is cast as Hitler in the musical Springtime
for Hitler and he practically steals the movie he is so funny.
Right behind him is Kenneth Mars as the Springtime for Hitler
author Franz Liebkind. ("What's this baby, the Fuhrer never
said baby.) You can get this movie just about anyplace for $10
which makes this classic a no brainer to pick up.
