New
York Stories was attempt to take three directors associated with
New York and let them work in a short film length. I do not recall
how it did at the box office and what the critical reception was
at the time, but it didn't do a whole lot for me. The Scorsese
segment is by far the best out of the three. Scorsese's direction
and Nick Nolte performance are both in solid and the story is
good enough to keep the viewer interested. The Woody Allen's segment
is very hit and miss. The images of his mother cowering in the
sky above Manhattan are funny and reminded me of his filmmaking
style back in the 'Bananas/Everything You Wanted to Know About
Sex' days. The Coppola segment did absolutely nothing for me.
