The
Matrix Reloaded is a hard film to really like. It has some nice
visuals and a couple of decent action set pieces, but it never
really seems to go anywhere. The first film was extremely tight
and this one has a lot of bloat. A lot of this occurs in the
action scenes which go on way to long. The prime of example
of this is the "Burly" brawl. I didn't time it, but
it seemed like it was at least a ten minute fight, when it easily
could have been cut in half. It becomes monotonous in a hurry
and doesn't really pick up until the Neo character grabs the
poll. At that point it turns into a top notch set piece with
some great visuals. You get the sense that everyone oohed and
ahhed so much at the fights scenes in the first film that the
Wachowski brothers decided having each fight last twice as long
that the audience would like it twice as much. They couldn't
have been further off. |
