House of Sand and Fog is a film that had me from frame one. It is one of those rare films that is able to show a conflict and the viewer is equally sympathetic and annoyed with both sides. Jennifer Connelly plays Kathy a down and out women who losses her house due to a technicality (and her own stupidity). Ben Kingsley plays Behrani a former colonel in the Iranian army who in the United States is stuck working multiple, menial jobs to keep his wife and daughter in the life of luxury they have come to expect. He knows nothing of Kathy's story, but when her house comes up for auction, he sees it as his chance to finally grab his slice of the American Dream. From there the film moves in various ways (which I do not want to give away) and leads to a beautifully poetic and haunting ending. This film is not to be missed.
