Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the second movie based on the Harry Potter series of books and although I did not like it as much as the first movie it still succeeds quite well. Everything has been revved up a little bit in this movie as there is less need for explanation of the universe Potter inhabits and we can stay with the characters and story a little more. At 161 minutes it is a fairly long movie, but I cannot see any of the future Harry Potter movies getting any shorter as all the subsequent books are longer and more detailed than the first two. Having read the books everything in the movie feels necessary to the full development of the story now and into the future, but I have read some reviews for both movies that criticize the length. The movie has a variety of standout moments but the spider sequence in the dark forest is one of the highlights, and the Dobby character is also great fun to watch. I really am looking for to The Prisoner of Azkaban which comes out this summer.
