Hangmen
Also Die was directed by the legendary Fritz Lang during World
War II. A lot of these films made during this time were semi-propaganda
films, so you never know what you are going to get. Although it
contains the typical propaganda elements, the film for the most
part is able to pull itself above those elements into an enjoyable
couple of hours. There are a couple of shots that are typically
great stuff from Lang, (The death of the Gestapo chief among them)
and cinematographer James Wong Howe does his normal stellar job
with the lighting. My only real problem is that every now and
then the acting of Anna Lee gets a little over the top. For as
long as she had been in the business at this time she should have
known how to tone it down a bit. Overall a solid Netflix rental.
