The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is a strange film. Its very set up could turn into a disaster of a movie so easily, that it's complete ability to suck me in every time makes me all the more in awe of it. This is a classic Hollywood love story in every sense of the word, and it is an outstanding movie. All credit must go do Joseph L. Mankiewicz who both wrote and directed the film (a fairly rare occurrence back then). He never lets the film get away and he directs Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison in probably the best performances of their lives. The Ghost and Mrs. Muir should not be missed.
