The
quote from Roger Ebert used on the back of this DVD says, "I
hope someone in the White House looks at this film now!".
I couldn't agree more with that statement, although at this point
I don't think it would make a difference. The current war in Iraq
is nothing like Vietnam, but when your hear Robert McNamara talk
about the decisions that were behind the escalation of the Vietnam
war they sound so familiar to the reasons used for going to war
with Iraq it is scary. McNamara is obviously a brilliant man who
has been highly involved in some of the biggest events that shaped
the course of the second half of the 20th century and hearing
him talk frankly about things like the fire bombing of Tokyo during
WWII, the Vietnam War or the Cuban Missile Crisis is endlessly
fascinating. Regardless of your politics this is a documentary
that everyone should see and another example of why Errol Morris
is the one of the greatest American directors of documentaries
ever. |
