The Cooler is a strange film. It is basically a fairy tale set in the brutal world of an old school casino where guys still get their legs broken (or worse) for trying to cheat the casino. (Most of the time this contrast works) William Macy plays Bernie, a guy who has such bad luck that all he needs to do is be in the vicinity of a gambler and they start to lose. This luck got him deep into debt with the casino in the past, so now he works for them, to pay off the debt, by helping to cool off the high rollers. His debt is about to be paid off and he has told his boss Shelly (Alec Baldwin) that he is going to leave Vegas. Bernie is such a valuable asset to the company that Shelly sets a plan in motion to make sure he doesn't leave. The rest of what happens needs to be seen. It is definitely worth it, so check this DVD out today.
