The Claim is a western more in the tradition of McCabe & Mrs. Miller than say the Wild Bunch. Peter Mullan plays the character Dillon, the owner/ruler of the mining town Kingdom Come. He is the owner of the town because of a pioneering decision he made 20 years earlier that paid off in a huge gold strike. As the movie opens a few people arrive in town that will have a drastic effect on both Dillon and the town of Kingdom Come. The first is the railroad surveyor Dalglish (Wes Bentley) whose final decision as to whether the railroad will actually go through Kingdom Come on its way west could make or break the town. The other is a woman with a link to Dillon's past (she knows exactly what Dillon gave up for his fortune) and her daughter who may break Dillon.
