SUMMARY
Blood Feast is a movie that needs to be seen to believe. It was the first film in Herschell Gordon Lewis's blood trilogy and is the film that started the whole gore genre. The story is not very good and the acting at times (who am I kidding, most of the time) is horrendous, but as with the Ed Wood films, it is tremendously entertaining. We also get to see a few things that in 1963 had never been captured on film. Among the acts of murderer, Fuad Ramses (Mal Arnold), performs are cutting off a woman's arm, cutting the brains out of a woman's head, and the highlight of the film, where he pulls the whole tongue out of a woman's mouth. All these human parts eventually are going to be part of a dinner he is preparing, hence the title. These things have been matched many times over in the years since, but they still work well and bring more than a couple good laughs.

Video quality is fairly solid overall. Things get a bit grainy at times, but nothing that is distracting. Audio has a similar level of quality. For me the highlight of this disc is the audio commentary. Both Mr. Lewis and Mr. Friedman are very entertaining showman and this commentary highlights the fun they had in making this film. They knew when they were making the film that they were doing something different. They just had no idea how well it would do and that it would spawn a whole new genre of film making. Get a big group together to watch this film and prepare to laugh and gag at the same time.
