SUMMARY
Film number two in Herschell Gordon Lewis's blood trilogy and considered by many of his fans (and the director and producers themselves) to be the best of the group. The basic story of Two Thousand Maniacs is that every 100 years a southern town that suffered at the hands of a group of Yankee soldiers during the Civil War takes its revenge on a group of Yankee outsiders. Among the acts of revenge are dropping a huge boulder on a woman, dismembering a person by having four horses pull ropes attached to a guys limbs and rolling a person down a hill in a barrel with nails in it. The gore scenes in this movie are not quite as shocking as the one in Blood Feast but they still work quite well. On every level this movie is better than Blood Feast. The story is better, the acting is improved and the film even has a few production values. That being said, for some reason the shock and goofiness of Blood Feast I found more entertaining. Any fan of gore should put this towards the top of their must see list.

As with Blood Feast the video and audio quality are solid. Just like Blood Feast the real fun in this DVD is listening to the commentary with Mr. Lewis and Mr. Friedman. You can really tell that those guys loved what the were able to achieve with next to no money.
